Spring is here and Summer is around the corner, which means it’s time to re-up on the UV blockers, a.k.a. sunglasses and expand the collection. Of the shades that have crossed my path over the past few days though, none have stood out more than the recent collaboration between Warby Parker and NY based fashion brand Theophilio. Their “Shaunie” sunglasses, conceptualized by Edvin Thompson, is a nod to the designer’s Jamaican background and childhood, incorporating his life into fashion in a way that seems not only fitting but beautifully done.

The shades are notably more rectangular in shape but oversized, which is a perfect sweet spot of combining the Jamaican influences from Thompson & capturing current trends in eyewear. The colors are aptly named for their combinations of lemon yellows, dark greens, and what looks to be a smoky grey version as well. Personally I have been enamoured with the Soursop colorway that can be found on Black Fashion Fair, though I may opt for Lemon Slice given my recent liking for citrons. I honestly haven’t had this much interest in a sunglasses collaboration since Coco & Breezy worked with Dawn Richard on their ‘GoldenHeart’ style, so it’ll be nice to add to my existing collection. The limited-edition specs start at $145 and will be sold on Warby Parker’s site as well as select stores.

Many have already shown their love online for the collab that launched in late March, and I’m sure many more will pick up a pair or two before the sun starts to truly set the world ablaze in the coming months. Let me know your thoughts on the sunglasses and if the style tickles your fancy, or if you plan on buying a pair yourself.
